The Bunney

The Bunney is in a cul-de-sac location with the idyllic surroundings of The Bunney, which is a narrow strip of land with a stream running through and path for those pleasant evening strolls. We are in the middle of Butlocks Heath village which has two pubs, The Cottage, Food available (Wadworth) and Roll Call (Free House), and a General Store. The village offers playing facilities for children, a football pitch and woodland walks through Priors Hill Copse to the old Netley Military Hospital reservoir.

We are in the Parish of Hound which comprises of: Netley Abbey, Butlocks Heath and Old Netley.

Close by is the historic and romantic location of Netley Village in Netley Abbey, 'Jewel of the Southern Parishes'. This waterfront village has its pebble beach and sandstone Netley Cliff, edging along Southampton Water which is home to shipping from around the world. Its main attractions are; Netley Abbey (Cistercian Abbey), Netley Castle (Device Fort - Henrician Castle), the Royal Victoria Country Park (formerly the Royal Victoria Military Hospital) and Sophie's Pond which is a delightful and popular nature reserve.

Have you heared of Charles Herbert Lightoller, 2nd Officer of the RMS Titanic.

He lived in Netley, originally staying at Heatherdene in Station Road, now demolished. He then moved to Nikko Lodge, 110 Station Road in 1912-16 with his wife Sylvia and children. This was the nearest property to Netley Railway Station, 112 Station Road,  The house was built before 1865 and was demolished approximately 1968. If you are lucky enough to have a photograph of Nikko Lodge would you care to share it? Please contact David via our 'Contact Us' webpage.

The village of Hamble-le-Rice is renowned for its links to sailing. This picturesque village lies along the River Hamble and is a mecca for the sailing fraternity. Hamble Quay is a meeting place for sailors and visitors alike and has a ferry link to Warsash. There are many coastal walks that link the marinas along the river.
