Mr George Hodder– 1901 Census (Lyme Regis, Dorset) – Brick Maker / Merchant in Hound & Builder.
1898 - There is evidence in Hound Grove, which adjions Pirors Hill Copse, of a Brick Field (Clay Pit) and in the area of St Mary's Wood there are Gravel Pits a Brick Field and Clay Pit. In Netley there are areas of Gravel and Sand pits. After the extraction of these minerals, these areas were used as Tips for local rubbish. This also included items from the new Royal Victoria Hospital.
Bygone reference: 'But local brick yards also supplied products widely, particularly to London but also overseas markets. Bursledon brick works exported from a quay on the River Hamble'.
